If you’re having problems with your water pressure, please run through the following steps to see if this resolves your issue.
- Check to make sure the stopcock under your kitchen sink is turned all the way to the left (open).
- Check the pressure gauge on your hot water cylinder. Between 1-3 is optimal. If it’s below 1, you may need to top up the pressure in your system. To do this, turn the small black lever just above the gauge 90 degrees, and then follow the pipe to the next black lever, which you should also turn 90 degrees. You should now see the arm on the gauge move as the pressure increases. Once it reaches close to 3, close the levers in reverse order; close the second black lever first, followed by the black lever closest to the gauge.
- You may need to top up your system pressure 3-4 times per year. If you need to do it more often than every 3-4 months, this can indicate a problem in the system, in which case, you should log a ticket with us.
- Sometimes, resetting your water pump can resolve any temporary water pressure issues. Depending on your house, your water pump may be on the ground floor or in your attic. If you can’t see it in your attic, it’s probably inside the water storage tank. You can reset it by turning off the power to the unit on the nearby socket. Turn it off for 30 seconds, then turn it back on.
- If the cold water pressure in your kitchen tap is normal, this suggests that the source of the problem lies within the plumbing system of the house. If the cold water pressure in your kitchen tap is affected too, this would indicate that the problem is coming from the mains, in which case you should check the Irish Water website for any potential water supply issues in your area or contact them directly.
